Waverley Blues Blue claimed their first win of the 2025 Ringwood Mazda EFNL netball Division 10 season, defeating South Croydon by one goal in a thrilling game going down to the wire at HE Parker.
It was tight throughout all four quarter. A opening 5-4 term set the term for Waverley. South Croydon won the middle two quarters, going down to the wire in the final term, producing a 24-23 thrilling triumph.
It was a dominant opening half from Waverley Blues Goal Attack Ella Harley that played a role in her side’s strong win on Friday night. She finished with 16 goals for the match, seven of them coming in the first two quarters.
Olivia Frescher was impressive in her own right at Goal Shooter, scoring eight goals, while teammates Eden Bourchier and Samantha Blewett had some great moments for the winning side.
It was a brilliant start to the game with both teams going goal for goal, with Waverley taking a one-goal lead at quarter time.
The intensity didn’t fall away in the second term as Waverley Goal Defence Eden Bourchier dominated the quarter for Waverley Blues. Her ability to read the balls coming into her defensive circle as well as create multiple intercepts.
With scores level at 12 all at half time, South Croydon won the third quarter, 7-6, taking a one-goal lead approaching the final quarter.
Waverley Blues made sure of the victory with another terrific term in the last, scoring six goals to four. It capped off a brilliant match between the two teams, but it was Waverley resulting in them winning their first match of the season.
