Beaconsfield travelled to East Ringwood in search of two wins on the trot in an attempt to build some early season momentum, but the opportunity was gone as quickly as it arrived as East Ringwood carried on their merry way in season 2022 in uncomplicated fashion.

East Ringwood made light work of the Eagles taking advantage of their mediocre conversion rate to run out with a percentage boosting win to the tune of 44 points to overcome the 12.9 (81) 4.13 (37).

Proceedings started with the Roo’s Connor Weightman the difference in the opening period demonstrating an unmatched ball winning ability and showing evasiveness in heavy traffic with clean hands standing out in a scrappy affair in the early stages.

The problems grew greater for the Eagles, as key forward Trent Farmer rose to the occasion with two goals in the space of a minute as he became the paramount concern for Mick Fogarty on the eve of the first break.

The Eagles rare highlight came from Jafar Ocaa, who soared above and beyond stepladder Callum Norris on the outer wing. Ocaa provided a spark between the arcs for the Eagles displaying bursts of speed with ball in hand to counter the persistent Roo’s pressure, but it was to be errors by foot where Beaconsfield stumbled, failing to convert multiple chances.

Farmer began reigning supreme, aided by an undersized opponent and repeat deep entries as East Ringwood took full toll with their measured ball movement.

Stopping East Ringwood’s ascendency at the source was the message relayed to the visitors and in turn attention was paid to Weightman in the centre. A run with role was noticeable to nullify his impact in short stretches.

Sensing a comeback Beaconsfield’s Josh Smith played a lone hand drawing first blood whilst tucked up against the boundary line to open the Eagles scoring account, this was to be the first of a pair of maximums for the key forward in trying circumstances.

Norris was an integral part of the Roo’s defensive structure flying third man up in countless situations to lay a set of knuckles on everything in his general direction. The floating spare man was able to springboard attacks of his own as well to make matters worse for the visitors, whilst Farmer reared his head at the other end, slotting his fourth en route to a game defining seven majors.

Notwithstanding the game high 32-point margin and aware of the uphill battle the Eagles faced, East Ringwood mentor Ben Osborne harped on the importance of numbers surrounding the contest at the final change.

With the door slightly ajar and the first goal crucial in stemming the flow from the Roo’s perspective the opportunity presented itself to the Eagles instead. Jack Docherty stepping up to the plate only to collect the woodwork from his set shot chance and summing up the day in front of the big sticks for Beaconsfield.

A mouth-watering encounter awaits us as the Roo’s travel to Mooroolbark this weekend to see who can be the last – undefeated – man standing in Division One this season.
