This Saturday’s clash with Montrose won’t just be about who wins the four points for Bayswater. It’ll be another chance to pay tribute to a club legend.

Water’s great Joel Galvin will lace up the boots for his 250th game on the weekend, the latest milestone in a stellar career representing the Bayswater Football Club.

Carrying on the legacy of his family name in the green and yellow, Joel has built a resume that would make any footballer envious.

His first major achievement came before he even hit the legal age limit, being part of the premiership winning side in 2005 at age 17. This was followed by another premiership in 2016, this time as the captain of Bayswater.

The team success that he accomplished might have been the highlight, but it came with its fair share of individual accolades too.

Galvin has captured three EFNL Best and Fairest Medals,  winning these in a six-year span between 2012 and 2018, showing his consistency across the course of his career.

He’s also managed five club best and fairest awards across his career with Bayswater, stretching from 2011 to 2018. This included the award in 2016 when he captained his side to a flag, achieving just about everything possible for a player in a single year.

When asked what his favourite achievement was, the answer was simple for Joel.

“Premierships.

“The two premierships without a doubt.

“2016 was probably made a bit more special playing with Mitch and Bryce.”

When asked about playing his 250th game this weekend, Galvin said it hadn’t really hit him yet how big an achievement this is.

“It’s pretty special, especially being at just one club as well,

“It’s pretty hard to put into words, it probably hasn’t really sunk in yet.”

Bayswater currently sit in a logjam through the middle of the Division One ladder, sitting second last but just one game outside the top-five. This weekend’s game could prove vital for their final’s aspirations, as well as giving them the chance to celebrate a club legend.

Galvin says winning another premiership is his main goal, but also touched on what his future will look like heading forward.

“Hopefully I can win one more premiership.

“At the moment though I’m just enjoying being with a younger group, developing them and playing whatever role it means for me.

“But definitely the reason for still playing is without a doubt the drive to win another premiership.

“That’s still the drive for me, to have one more successful year before the next part of my journey.”

Bayswater play host to Montrose on Saturday afternoon, as the Waters faithful prepare to celebrate a champion of their club and the league.
