Expressions of Interest | Women’s Football 2017

Female footy in Melbourne’s East and Yarra Ranges is booming. Since the advent of the Eastern Region Girls Competition, a merged entity of the EFL and AFL Yarra Ranges, underage girls’ team numbers have grown from 12 in 2015 to 37 in 2016 and indications are this will significantly increase again in 2017.

Senior women’s footy has been alive and well in the east for a number of years with 6 teams currently competing. Knox and the Eastern Devils (based in Mulgrave) both competed in the VFL Women’s competition in season 2016 whilst Whitehorse (Division 1), Chirnside Park in Division Two and Bayswater in Division Three and competed in the VWFL competition.

With the introduction of the AFL Women’s National League, interest surrounding female football has never been greater. This has seen a number of new clubs interested in starting senior women’s football teams in 2017.

As such, we are seeking Expressions of Interest from clubs interested in fielding a senior women’s football team in 2017.
