The EFNL was whole again on Friday Night as the Netball courts filled up with plenty of eager players ready to make up for lost time. Flick through our Bendigo Bank weekend review to find all the key results.

Premier Division

East Burwood v Lilydale

East Burwood defeated the Lilydale Falcons by a solitary goal on the weekend. The Rams trailed at every main break, falling behind by as many as 6 goals at the 3-quarter time break. However, a massive comeback in the final term allowed the side to run away eventual victors 36-35 after scoring 13 goals to 6 in the last quarter.

The Rams were spearheaded by goal-scorer Belinda Williams, who dominated her part of the court and finished the match with 21 goals. The scoring duties for Lilydale were much more evenly split, with Zoe Abbruzzese and Rachael Goulding finish up with 10 goals each, while Kirralee Luiyf contributed 9 goals.

Division One

Kilsyth v East Ringwood

Kilsyth have come away victorious in a nail-biting encounter against East Ringwood. The scores were deadlocked at 14 apiece at the half-time break, with a 9-5 third quarter in favour of Kilsyth proving to be the difference between these two evenly matched sides. Final scores were 31-28 as the Cougards started 2021 off on the right paw.

Vermont Eagles Gold v Lilydale Gold

Vermont had to work hard to get a win over Lilydale last weekend, an 8 goal to 3 final term allowing them to scrape away with a 1-goal win. Scoring duties were evenly shared between Lily McRae and Lucy David, who had 11 and 10 goals respectively as the Eagles took out a 21-20 win against the Falcons.

Division Three

East Ringwood v Norwood

It was a dominant display from East Ringwood on the weekend, with the Roos defeating Norwood by a margin of 23 goals. They increased their advantage throughout every quarter; however, the knockout blow came in the third quarter as they outscored Norwood 14-6 during that term. Darcy Krenn of Norwood top-scored for the match with 19 goals as the finished up 45-22 victors.

Mulgrave v Nunawading

Mulgrave and Nunawading battled themselves to a standstill this weekend, with a final score of 17-17 meaning the teams will share the two points. The lead changed hands at each break, with the Lions ultimately unable to hang on to their 13-12 lead heading into the final period. Danielle Norman top-scored for the match with 10 crucial goals – making up almost one third of the goals scored for the entire game.

Kilsyth’s division five side put together an outstanding performance last Friday, pulling away from opponents Ferntree Gully with a crushing 10 goal to 1 third quarter. Courtney Muller and Lauren Koehrer had 17 and 16 goals respectively as Kilsyth’s defence allowed just 2 goals across the second and third quarters. Final scores were 33-7.

South Belgrave v Kilsyth

South Belgrave fought off a spirited fightback from Kilsyth to earn the 2 points by the slimmest of margins. The Saints had a 17-7 lead heading into the main break, however a 12-4 quarter by Kilsyth ensured that the game would go down to the wire, with South Belgrave just getting over the line by a score of 28-27 in absolute thriller.

The Basin v Boronia

The Basin recorded a huge win over Boronia this week. Lead goal-scorer Kate Wilson was ably supported up forward by Emma Winsall and Elly Turcinovic, as the Bears scored at least 9 goals in every term while holding Boronia to no more than 2.

Final scores were 38-7.
