Another big weekend of results for the EFNL netball community with Round Six now done and dusted.

Division 1:

Heathmont 43 def Ferntree Gully 34

 

A quite week for Division one with bottom of the ladder Heathmont Jets and Ferntree Gully Eagles battling it out for the win. FTG Eagles were persistent to prove they can secure their first win this season but fell short by 9 goals. The Jets were able to walk away smiling with their second win for the season.

 

Taylah Barr was amazing in the goal circle scoring 27 goals of her own and supported by Rory Barr and Jessica Zajc scoring eight each.

 

Mikayla McNamara and Abbey Green also worked beautify with a shared 19 and 15 goals, however it wasn’t enough to get the Eagles to secure the win.

Division 2:

 

Scoresby Magpies 41 def The Basin 23

 

A major upset for top of the ladder The Basin Kodiaks being defeated by 4th place Scoresby Magpies. This loss has now pushed the Kodiaks down to 3rd place just above the Magpies as they encountered their second loss for the season.

 

The Kodiaks ended the first quarter with a one-goal lead but couldn’t sustain the lead for very long as the Magpies took over going into halftime with a five-goal lead. By the end of the third quarter Scoresby pushed their attack in the goal circle outscoring their opponents 13-6 and ending the game with an 18-goal victory.

 

Jessica Ford progressively gets better with every game, scoring 29 goals making it her best game yet. Kayla Nealy and Sarah Grigg contributed 8 and 4 goals.

Division 3:

 

Vermont 26 def Lilydale 19

 

Much like Division 2, top of the ladder Lilydale did put their best foot forward suffering a loss to 4th place Vermont. Lilydale remain on the top of the ladder with a 4-1-1 record.

 

The Eagles dominated all throughout the game as they controlled the match, leading by 16 goals by the end of the third quarter. Lilydale tried to make a comeback but fell short by 7 goals.

 

Emma Buckland and Elise Norman continue to work beautifully in the goal circle together contributing 14 and 12 goals for the Eagles.

 

Lilydale are set to play second of the ladder Montrose next week.

Division 4:

 

Silvan 27 def Boronia 26

 

A very intense and close game between 6th and 7th place on the ladder with a game that could have gone either way. A slow start to the game with Boronia leading by a goal at the end of the first quarter. However, Silvan fought back in the second quarter, leading by four goals by halftime and two by the end of the third quarter. In a low scoring game, the Cats were able to maintain the lead and hold off Boronia, winning by one goal.

 

Bianca Stockley from Silvan and Jessica Rouda from Boronia both scored 16 goals each for their teams, but it was the assistance of Jen Peterson that led the Cats to victory.

Division 5:

 

 

Coldstream 23 def Knox 21

 

Another nail-biting game as Coldstream and Knox battled it out on Friday night. Yet another match that could have gone either way, Knox lead by one-goal all throughout the game with Coldstream continuously breathing down their necks. It was the hunger and passion for the win that led Coldstream to make an unpredictable turnover and win the game by two goals.

 

Amazing contribution from all scorers from Coldstream as Lauren Beaton, Tegan Eagle, and Kate Wilson score 10, 8 and 5 goals towards their team’s victory.

 

It was Stephanie Tilley who shinned during the match, scoring the most goals among any player on the court scoring 16 goals however it was not enough to secure the win.

Division 6:

 

Coldstream 45 def Glen Waverley 29

 

A very important game for both teams this week as 1st and 2nd place battled it out on the courts. Glen Waverley was the team to beat, but Coldstream had an agenda in mind and that was to win. All throughout the game Coldstream were in the lead however the Hawks caught up to them in the second half, teasing an overthrow by being only two goals behind. Despite the close margin, Coldstream didn’t let the Hawks get too comfortable and proved to be too strong by pushing out to a 13-goal lead by the end of the third quarter and winning by 16.

 

Both teams finish round six with a 5-1 record.

 

Sarah Billingham scored an exceptional 29 goals with assistance from Emma-Lee Jakobs scoring 16 of her own.

Division 7:

Waverley Blues 26 def Montrose Storm 20

 

Another undefeated team suffered their first loss on Friday night. Montrose sat comfortably on the ladder in first position but have now moved down to second after suffering a defeat to the Waverley Blues who now sit in third.

 

The game was neck and neck with an even scoring match up until halftime. By the end of the third quarter, Waverley took the lead by scoring an extra two goals and winning by six.

 

Both Gabriella Hatch and Jamie Blewett worked brilliantly in the goal circle, scoring 14 and 12 goals for Waverley Blues.

Division 8:

 

Mulgrave 28 def Ferntree Gully 12

 

Mulgrave enjoyed a comfortable 16- goal win against Ferntree Gully on Friday night.

 

The game started off close with Mulgrave only being in the lead by two goals at halftime. However, after halftime Mulgrave’s defence proved to be too strong for Ferntree Gully as they only scored a total of three goals against Mulgrave’s 17.

 

Alexandra Bonney scored the most goals on court with 16 of her own assisted by Kayla Mclean and Hayley Egan scoring 9 and 3.

 

Amazing efforts from Brittney Gray scoring 11 goals for the eagles with the help of Jemma Campbell scoring one.
