The South Croydon Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Brendan Allen to the role of Senior Men’s Coach for the 2024 Season.
Brendan is no stranger to EFNL Premier Division football having been the Senior coach at Blackburn for the last 6 years leading them to finals each year.
Prior to that he spent time coaching in the VFL system as a Senior Assistant with Sandringham, again regularly playing finals.
Brendan is a proven performer whom we are sure will have a big impact on the team in 2024.
The head of the Selection Panel, Stephen Quon said:
“Our criteria in looking for a new coach was to find somebody who will drive really high standards, is a great communicator, can educate our young players and re-invigorate and challenge our senior players.
We were searching for a new coach who has great values that align with our club and has been involved in successful & winning environments previously.
After taking our time to explore many avenues we determined that Brendan was the most exceptional candidate meeting every single criteria we were searching for.
We are very lucky to have Brendan lead our club and extremely excited to get to work with him and see what we can all achieve together.
We are putting no limits on what we can achieve in the future under Brendan.”
In accepting the role, Brendan had this to say:
“My intention for 2024 was to sit it out after a long 6 years at Blackburn. It took a long chat from a previous South Croydon captain to ignite the spark again and piqued my interest about the role.
I met with key people at the club, understood what has happened in the past, where I can make improvements to the program and that motivated me enough to accept the role in 2024.
Whenever a new coach comes along, different ideas and different methodology are introduced also. In no way do we want to reinvent the wheel but look to add some layers to what has been a successful brand of football over the past 7-8 years.
My aim is to implement a VFL program at a community setting so adding a bit more structure to things will also help the development of the playing list.
In regards to expectations for 2024, obviously an improved on-field performance from 2023, but we’ll just put in the work over the pre-season, learn some new things and hopefully translate that to game day.”
